The Ottawa Stone Carving Festival was an excellent experience. 31 carvers took part and created some beautiful pieces as a result of their hard work.
$9000 was raised for a local charity.
It being the year of Canada’s 150th birthday
I was inspired by some lyrics from a song written by David Overton and music composed by John Arnold (http://www.opusmusicaltheatreworks.com/single_green_leaf.html) called ‘Land of My Dreams’. Its a beautiful song sung by the main character Arthur Bennett, more famously known as Grey Owl.
This Arizona Red Slate was a perfect fit for my idea. The texture of the slate below the phrase reminded me of looking at a topographical map of the northern part of Canada – all those inlets and rivers. The top part of the slate made me think of the mountains of British Columbia and the red earthy tone is so distinctive of Prince Edward Island.
