Maria was my mother-in-law, who sadly passed away in 2013 after a brave battle with a rare form of cancer.
She was a wonderful lady who loved to have family gatherings of which food was always a good part of the festivities. She was an excellent cook so it was never a hardship for those of us who got to be part of the gathering!
One of her favourite sayings was “Take your time”, for she loved the laughter and the fun of it all and wanted it to last as long as possible. As we approached the 2nd anniversary of her death we had planned to plant a Hydrangea in her honour, a favourite plant from her native Azores but something more was required. “Take your time” seemed to be an obvious choice and I selected a red slate to honour her love of colour.
I started with freehand brush lettering.
Roman lettering and other styles seemed too formal for this fun loving lady. It’s not perfect but I do like how it has turned out and its a gentle reminder to savour every moment.
